Do excessive masturbation, desire for sex and sexual feelings towards numerous men and women make a woman, a nymphomaniac? If yes, don’t you think this labels women’s sexuality as taboo? And if no, do we all mean that all women have the same levels of sexual urge.
Common signs of nymphomaniac include insatiability, compulsive masturbation, and lewd advances towards men/women. The idea of nymphomania took root in the 1800s. German sex therapists would remove the clitoris of nymphomania, leech the vagina, and recommend cold baths. Additionally, the doctors would enforce bed rest, regular exercise, vaginal application of cocaine, and a vegetarian diet.
However approaching the early 1980s, the American Psychiatric Association removed nymphomania, homosexuality, oral sex, and masturbation from the list of mental disorders. Today, society has almost normalized sexual tendencies, and women who show signs of not desiring or enjoying sex are the ones at risk of receiving a diagnosis. However, psychiatrists have identified women who showed excessive, compulsive, and uncontrolled sexual desires. Upon whom, a diagnosis of hypersexuality is prescribed.
Sex addiction could take an emotional toll on you as well as your partner. Sometimes you are less likely to engage in safe sex and you will not be wary of healthy boundaries. Sex addiction makes one involved with strangers sexually or emotionally, despite not relating to them intimately. The idea of female hypersexuality is scary and most men will be afraid of them; hence forcing these women into unhealthy relationships, or making them move from one relationship to another. Without sex, nymphomanias might feel incomplete, guilty, and loneliness-; which makes them sexualize such feelings and crave even more sex.
Besides emotional effects, sex addiction can create physical side effects and disorders. One of the most common physical effects of sex addiction is becoming immobilized due to uncontrolled sexual urges.
